Summer Update

A Letter from our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Strong communities are built on compassion, connection, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe. At Turning Point, we witness the power of community every day through the courage of survivors, the dedication of advocates, and the generosity of people like you.

Domestic violence doesn’t just affect individuals. It touches families, neighbors, friends, and impacts they way we all live and connect with one another. That’s why our work goes beyond providing emergency shelter. It’s about creating a community where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered to thrive.

But community can’t happen in isolation.

For 44 years, Turning Point has stood as the only comprehensive domestic violence agency in McHenry County. We are a lifeline, a place of healing and advocacy, and a source of education and empowerment. And every step forward is made possible by the support of people like you.

In the last fiscal year alone, our 24-hour emergency helpline answered over 2,600 calls—each one a reminder of the ongoing need for safety, hope, and connection.

We are proud to share that this past year, we expanded our services to deepen healing and empowerment:

  • A new weekly survivor writers’ group now provides space for self-expression and storytelling as part of the recovery journey.
  • We invested in our Creative Art Therapy program, training five additional staff to incorporate therapeutic art practices into client support.
  • Recognizing the importance of advanced trauma-informed care, we began offering a 40-hour Sexual Assault Certificate training to staff, equipping them with enhanced tools to support survivors with compassion and skill.

None of this is possible without you.

Your financial support—whether $25, $50, $500 or more—directly sustains these critical programs. Every dollar helps create safer environments, expand access to healing, and empower survivors to rebuild their lives.

Please consider making a gift today. Every act of support brings healing within reach and helps build a future free from violence.

Thank you for being part of our community. Together, we can continue this life-changing work.

With deep appreciation,

Where our community grows, hope follows.

For many, Turning Point is the first place they feel heard, safe, and supported. We never charge for survivor services, but providing them takes a significant investment in our staff and programs. Your monthly gift makes it possible for us to keep showing up, every single day.
